| Overdue FOs |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|01:15 pm] |
I have a few FOs that I have been meaning to post. I am very proud of some of them!
( Rainbow Socks... )Gloves of SCIENCE...
Pattern Link (ravelry) Ravelry Project page Science gloves for a sciency friend. So she can keep warm when...sciencing. I made thease while we were having a '24 in 24' marathon, so a very quick knit. I nicked the DNA cable from the DNA scarf. There are details on what I did (although kinda fuzzy ones) in the comments on ravelry.
First Jumper...(really rubish pic, sorry)
Pattern Link (ravelry) Ravelry Project page My first jumper! It has so many mistakes, not least it being a bit big. But I love it, and it is wonderfully soft. I made it out of some Cash/Merino aran from Colourmart. If you haven't tried them, they are AMAZING!
( Oh, and some bonus colourwork... ) </div>

| Finished objects! |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|07:34 pm] |
( Aeolian shawl in Sea Silk ) Definitely one of my favourite patterns ever!
( Hand-spun, hand-dyed beret hat thingy ) I loved making my own yarn and dying it! What a fun experience!
( Calystegia cowl ) First time working with Malabrigo... instant love!!!
( Victorian Lace Today Capelet ) I actually hated pretty much every aspect of making this shawl. It was really boring, and took FOREVER and although it looks great, I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone who doesn't have INFINITE patience!
PS: I would really love new friends on Ravelry (I'm shystreet on there!) :) bye! |

| one row high stripe? |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|04:24 pm] |
I'm trying to knit a hat that has some stripes in it. Is it possible to have just one stripe, one row high, and not have a jog? I've Googled a bunch and come across the jogless stripes technique, but does this work for just one row? I've also come across the barber pole technique, but I want just the one stripe.
Does such a thing exist?
EDIT TO ADD: I'm knitting this hat in the round :) |

| Atypically Knit HP Scarves |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|05:23 pm] |
My brother requested a Gryffindor scarf for christmas, and I was pretty set on knitting him one of the scarves from knit.atypically.net. Alas, the website is offline now and the GoogleCache doesn't work for the patterns, which is really disappointing.
So, can anyone recommend a good Harry Potter scarf pattern? I don't want to do an illusion scarf, just a simple stockinette stitch scarf, so something along those veins would be perfect :)
Thanks. |

I am making the Heelhead Scarf (http://carissaknits.blogspot.com/2008/10/heelhead-scarf.html) and I am at the increases, and I don't know for the life of me, what M1LP is, I know its "make one left purlwise" But how?! If anyone can walk me through it or point me to a tutorial, I searched but to no avail :( Thanks! |

[[ HUDSON LINE RAILROAD. ]]
The front of this notebook features one of my TTV photographs of the autumn view from a MetroNorth train along the Hudson River line.
TTV stands for "through the viewfinder," in this case, that of a vintage, square format camera. This gives the images a retro feel and a variance in focus that isn't common to straightforward digtal photography.
- 6.25" x 6.25" (16 cm x 16 cm) - 200 pages. - Bound with turquoise blue waxed Irish linen thread.

Hey everyone! I just listed three new pieces in my Etsy shop, all of which are made from vintage jewelry pieces. There are two bracelets and one necklace. Click here to check them out. Also, remember we're having a big sale, too, and every wallet is marked down $5-10, and clothing is up to $25 off! |

| Increase issue |
[Nov. 10th, 2009|08:24 pm] |
I'm having some trouble with increases. I'm making a scarf that will be wider in the middle than at the ends. It's in 2x2 ribbing, and I want to make the ribbing wider for the wider bit. Problem is, every kind of increase I try leaves a hole underneath. :( I've tried m1-r, m1-l, bar increase/Kfb (doesn't leave a gap but I *hate* that little bar), a modified kfb that goes back into the stitch and slips it purlwise. I've tried purl increases, which seem slightly better, but still with the hole. The gauge is fairly loose (Drops Merino (dk) on US 5 needles), but not so loose that a gap like what's happening won't bug the hell out of me every time I see it.
Is there a trick to increasing on ribbing that I'm not getting, a magic increase that won't leave a hole (some of the ones I've tried normally don't, which is why I'm stumped)? Or will I just have to deal with either the bar or the holes? Any advice/opinion/commentary would be appreciated. :) |

| City Backpack |

| | accomplished | ] | HI all! This is my FIRST time posting here, & i'm glad to share with you this backpack i made a while back :D This is something I made in about May 2009, after my Mid-year Examinations. It's basically a small bag which can be carried around. I got the tutorial off HeartOfMary's blog. The tutorial was good, but the straps, I feel, should not be sewn from the bottom, but rather from the sides. Also, the next time i attempt this bag, I plan to make it bigger, so that it can fit A4 and so that I can bring it to school. A picture paints a thousand words, So here are the pics for you to see! You be the judge (:

Thissss is my new doll pattern. It needs some tweaking, still, though. The pattern is quite a bit more painstaking than the simpler one, but I love the results. I'm not at ALL happy with how her mouth turned out (not the best at embroidery, yet, but I'm workin' on it), BUT I love her hair, I love the new pattern, and I'm really proud of her dress and... shoe... I have to make her a second one. xD
Speaking of doll dresses... anyone know how to keep the seams from being all crazy chunky? =/ I usually knit their dresses, so sewing them is a little new to me.

| Cable Cast-On... |
[Nov. 10th, 2009|11:49 am] |
I've Googled my question and found many conflicting responses, so I'm trying here - realizing that I also may get many conflicting responses. ;)
Is the cable cast-on more stretchy or less stretchy than long-tail? And is there a time one should NOT use the cable cast-on? I think it's great and wouldn't mind using it all the time, provided there are not some specific cases where it's not advisable.
As an example, I'm knitting my second pair of Berry Hill Fingerless Mittens - here on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/berry-hill-fingerless-mittens
I'm not a terribly tight knitter but I'd still like my cast-on row to be a bit looser. I know I can go up a needle size or two to get that, but I'm also wondering if the cable cast-on would provide a bit more looseness as well. Advice, please? Opinions? Conflicting or otherwise? ;)
Thanks! |

| Question |
[Nov. 10th, 2009|12:47 pm] |
I have found a pattern for socks that I must have and they are knit toe-up and I haven't done socks that way before.
Is it more complicated to knit socks this way? It seems so foreign to me!
Thanks for your input. |
